It doesn’t take much to make the world a better place.
Sometimes the obstructions that seem to hold us back from making a difference are all in our own head. In fact, the conscious decision to make a positive impact is enough to stop the chain of negativity that surrounds us and beautify the world around us.
The options are endless. Try changing your world with a couple of these ideas:
- Give someone a heartfelt compliment. Or take a leap and make the commitment to give an encouragement to everyone you speak to. I don’t mean, “You look great” or Good job”. The compliments I am referring to are deeper, more real and genuine. “You are a blessing to me.” “You inspire me by…” “You challenge me to be a better person.”
- Send a card or a letter to someone who could use a smile. All it takes is five minutes, two dollars, and a heart of gold to make another person’s day!
- Volunteer. Use your time to bless someone who needs a helping hand. Culture has become so intent on finding something for itself that it has forgotten the blessing of giving to another individual. Unconditional gifts speak volumes!
- Be a listener. Even if the problems of the people around you seem inconsequential compared to what you face, listen. Choose to care about those around you.
- Live in the moment. Teach the people you meet how to appreciate the little things in life. See a star that looks extra bright? Point it out to the person standing beside you. Take your friend a cup of coffee just because you were thinking about her.
- Never, ever miss an opportunity to smile. Focus on looking an individual in the eye and projecting hope into their heart. One smile goes a long way; you never know if it may be the only one someone sees all day.
Sometimes it’s the little differences that count.
